Mark, You appear to be the man on this forum and I hope you can help me. I recently bought an lx277 with the Kawi 17hp. One of the coils was bad so I replaced it. It runs fine but I am a dumbass and can't figure out where one part goes. I took off the air cleaner, the guard on the top of the flywheel, and the engine top cover. The piece I sitting on my bench that has me baffled is a heavy gauge stamped sheet metal part that is about 1.5' long. It has a mild tear drop shape with two holes in it.

It only appears that one of the holes had a bolt in it. On the top (narrowest end, it narrows to about 1/4' but that is offest to one side. I looked all through the explode parts views and cannot find the thing. Dsc Power 832 Pc5010 Master Code Reset more.

I hope this rings a bell withyou and you can help. Thanks, Greg. Welcome to forum Greg. Unfortunately I don't know what it could be either. You might checkout the exploded views at the link below. They are a little more detailed to what Deere has on their site for the engine. Sounds like some sort of a guard or heat shield by the description.

Sometimes I think the manufactures just put in extra parts, nuts and bolts to play with our minds. Funny thing is though since I started taking digital photos to prove it while taking things apart I don't have that problem nearly as much. Here's an electrical diagram I found on the net for it. If you have a DC voltmeter the first thing to check would be if your getting the 12VDC out of the ignition switch to the starter solenoid in the start position. If you are getting the switched voltage to the solenoid it is either the solenoid or the starter itself causing the problem.

If no 12VDC to the solenoid from the start switch then your back to a bad ignition switch, ignition relay or one of the safety switches. Also I see fuse F1 fusible link and F3 either of which could give a dead symptom. (Fuse F2 is for the headlights only.).
