Lycoming Engine Serial Number Lookup
Lycoming engine cases can be identified to some degree using the serial number. The 320 series that are equipped with a carburetor will end with a -27. Engines in the 320 family that are built with fuel injection end with -55.
Statistical Techniques Statistical Mechanics.
The 360 series engines with carburetors end with -36 and the injected engines end with a -51. The standard flange engine cases will NOT have any letter following the dash number.
Wide deck engine cases with the standard tappets will have the letter A included following the dash number. Sniper Elite V2 Co Op Multiplayer Crack Download here. Roller tappet cases will have an E suffix.
Cases converted to the large body tappets will have a T suffix. The serial number will not indicate the style of mounting or other configurations but if you call Lycoming with the serial number they will be able to tell you how it was configured and who it was delivered to and when as well as what the engine was intended for. The first photo is a Wide Deck 320 with a carburetor. The second an IO360 Narrow Deck Photo 3 shows the number stamped in by a crank case reconditioning facility. Number 4 is a narrow deck case without the Alt. Mounting pad.
The bracket bolts on using the case through bolts on these models. Number 5 is a wide deck case with an altrnater mounting pad. Number 6 is a very early accessory housing.
The 2 bolts between the fuel pump and prop governor pad are for the early bolt on oil pick up. The later accessory cases don't have these holes machined into them.

You can see the doubler plates and the internal wrenching nuts used on the cylinder base. The doubler plates are not used on the 150hp O320. The standard flange was developed with the O290.
When the bore was increased to make the 320, the cylinder was larger and no longer allowed the use of standard hex nuts as used on the small bore 290 thus the internal wrenching nuts were needed. The narrow deck 360s and 540 light case engines use the same cylinders and hold down plates. The wide deck case has a larger cylinder pad and the bolt pattern is spread out allowing the use of hex nuts. In photo 5 you can see the heavier flange of the wide deck cylinder. With the introduction of the IO390 engine the bore was increased once again and the hex nuts had to be eliminated in favor of the internal wrenching nuts just as when the bore had been increased to make the 320/360 cylinders. The 320, 360 and 540 engines share the same bore size. The 360/540 cylinders are slightly longer than the 320 cylinders due to the additional 1/2' of stroke.
Lycoming produced a 340c.i. Engine for a short time. Basically it was a 320 with 1/4' longer stroke. These cylinders were slightly longer than 320 cylinders.
ECI is currently producing a stroker crankshaft for the 320 that makes it a high compression 340c.i.
